Being able to effectively manage your cards on your mobile device quickly and efficiently became a must have in a short amount of time for Alkami. We started with researching some relatively quick updates we could push to answer a lot of the requests we were getting around the card experience.
We started out by doing a competitive analysis on competitors and what their UI/UX looked and felt like. We also focused on what kind of features they surfaced etc.
During the same period, we also sent out a survey to get some quick feedback from clients on what was important to them regarding their card experience.
One of the features we ended up wanting to add was the ability to register and activate your card on your mobile device. We had several whiteboarding sessions and sketched out a lot of wireframes.
We ended with a simple process that allowed the user to register and activate their card in 3 easy steps.
Another feature we wanted to focus on was incorporating more realistic card images to better identify which card a user was viewing. This actually has a surprising impact for users. When the card on your phones screen looks like the physical plastic you have in your wallet, it's an easier cognitive load when making decisions around that card.
The last updated focused around the actions and controls you have access to for any given card. Some features were more important, more frequently used etc.
I sketched out some concepts on how that experience could be laid out. I had an idea to surface the 3 main features on the card details screen, and contain all the additional features in a "bottom sheet" screen that could be accessed from a "more" button in the top right. This sheet would animate in by sliding up from the bottom to reveal all the additional features you have access to.
We are continuing research and looking for opportunities to enhance the card experience. Below you can see some of the updates and how the design turned out during our first update to this feature.
